CMS for no profit
The No-profit Technology Network (NTEN) has just published the 2008 report on user satisfaction of content management systems (CMS). The document clearly shows that the non-profit organizations prefer open source systems to the owners one. Michelle Murrain, coordinator of the No-profit Open Source Initiative and a member of the NTEN board, highlights some of the reasons of the success of open source CMS:
* No expenses to buy software
* No management cost for the medium-low traffic of your site
* Hosting fees contained
* Software stable and efficient for most organizations of the same level or even higher level
* Community of developers very active providing continuous improvements, new products and services
* Easy to install and manage
* Easy to customize and adding additional components
Another interesting point that emerges from the report is that the open source CMS have obtained a higher average score of proprietary systems. The three most used CMS, Plone, Drupal and Joomla!, have achieved an excellent score: almost all A and never below B.
