The need
The intranet Honda Italy is the result of a deep study by the Abstract's team. It fully meets the needs expressed by the customer: “a simple but at the same time articulated website”, so that gave its users the chance to navigate between appointments, meetings, documents, projects and communications quickly, respecting at the same time, the policies of permissions internal to the company.
The peculiarity of the intranet Honda Italy lies in the processes that led to the creation of the final product.Above the portal there is a structured study made with innovative tools that gave birth to a result not only welcome but highly responsive to the requirements expressed by the user. The challenge of the intranet is always something new, every company has a complex structure of power and an extensive and almost never linear organization. The biggest is the company the more complex become the decision-making processes and the levels of security.
The portal
In this case the level of complexity is high because of the number of users, documents and reports run by each department, everybody wished that the intranet met a certain requirement without taking into account the needs of different departments or, in cases of collaboration between them, often creating situations of conflict or overlap. Not to mention that every intranet has a tremendous impact on work organization and every company should be ready to bear the costs of this impact. An intranet, often change not only the processes but also the same approach to work and remains a work in progress to be developed over time through experience. For Honda intranet we operated a careful analysis and more brain storming before the creation of the portal and during the operational steps. What is then the right approach for the design of an intranet? It is important to explain what components of an intranet may have impact on users and their work and how get used to the change could affect the production pace. When working on a project of this kind is necessary to have the support of all company levels to break down the resistance and help spread the new technology (that many could find tricky).
Collect the ideas of the end users through brainstorming is a way to bring change and at the same time respond more precisely to individual needs, analysing a posteriori the use of the final product to improve it in future. Suggestions must be received by each side and from every level, during all the processes, that's why it was necessary to involve groups of future users of all types and privilege to create a map of perceived needs. Following the data collection by Abstract a team has carefully studied the dynamics of the process behind the company and proposed a number of possible solutions that have been subjected to the analysis of user groups previously identified. The teams evaluated theoretically and practically the feasibility of the proposals.
At the same time Honda ensured a constant feedback to never forget the ultimate goal and to correct the imperfections of direction to avoid unnecessary losses.
At the end Honda has been plenty satisfied by the high level of the product. The intranet was deemed a success and has really changed, but especially by simplifying optimization, working patterns of team Honda.
