The need
The continuing commitment of Città della Scienza in the field of technological innovation and training is reflected in the complexity of its intranet, which besides being the virtual centre of aggregation of many teams at the same time is the stage of a large number of international projects and continually host events of great magnitude. The internationalization of its projects and the collaborative nature of its initiatives oblige Città della Scienza to a range of complex structured intranet to manage quick and successfully the international teams that constantly collaborate at distance, the multilingual contents, and all other attractions and difficulties related to a corporate intranet.
The solution
The solution designed for Città della Scienza has a double value: a portal website dedicated to clear information for users of any kind of the Web and a private intranet dedicated to the internal needs of the organization. From a technical point of view the intranet has a very simple design to meet the needs of the customer. In the case of intranet, there are two really important feature that we developed. According to Città della Scienza you can check via the intranet and in real time each work-group and their progress and attendance cards. Città della Scienza using a private system of control of inputs and outputs through the use of a personal magnetic card at the entrances/exits can control the movements of its employee; the data collected by these machines are sent directly to the intranet where they are processed in real time, so it is always possible to trace the paths of movement of employees in the company simply by accessing the network. Among the elements of Città della Scienza as a firm, there are specific features dedicated and developed on the needs of specific projects. For instance, Città della Scienza looks for solution build for international projects in progress according to certain specifications: the companies involved, workshops, documentary area, area of information exchange, etc ... All these elements have been carefully examined and collected from Abstract in a new object for the CMS project, and conceptualized in an item called “China Model” (from the name of the main international project in progress at the moment in Città della Scienza). This item is totally replicable and allows portal managers of Città della Scienza to include for each project, in progress or future, an object that encompasses all the necessary information without having to rebuild each time step by step all the relevant information.
